Sydney is one of the largest and the biggest cosmopolitan city in Australia. It is a city which has a harbor and is called by visitors as one of the most beautiful and livable cities in the world. Sydney is a city which has a history of art and culture and its location allows it to acquire miles of ocean and coastline with beautiful beaches. Sydney has two of the most iconic landmarks in the world; namely the Sydney Harbor Bridge and Sydney Opera House.

Inside The City
The city is a major international hub of trade and communication in the Asia Pacific and it also was the host city to the Olympics which speaks volumes about its importance to the world. Sydney is a huge city with various districts. It is also surrounded by many sprawling park and gardens. The city has six main districts namely the city centre which houses the financial buildings and many fine restaurants and shopping malls. Then we have the Rocks, which is a cosmopolitan centre of the city, it also has the Sydney Harbor Bridge. The Darling Harbor is another district which has places of entertainment. It houses many museums and restaurants. The city south area has various markets most notably Haymarket, Chinatown and Central Station. The city east has various parks like the Kings Cross, Surry Hills and Moore Park; it has a vibrant night life and various cafes. Finally, the city west district is where the fish markets and the Star City Casino are located.

Climate
The climate of the city is moderate with hot days in the summer. The maximum temperature in summer can reach around 40 degrees while the winters are cool. Minimum temperatures hover around to 10 degree mark in December and January.

Moving Around
You can reach the city by plane, cruise ships, cars and buses. Nearly all the international carriers fly to and from Sydney to other major international destinations. The Sydney airport is one of the busiest and entry point to other destinations in Australia. Getting around a big city can be difficult but Sydney has a very efficient public transport system that would get you to the various parts of the city with no difficulty. You can either use the Sydney city buses or the suburban rail network which runs along the various districts.

Major Attractions
Sydney has numerous landmark buildings which is a must see for anyone who visits Australia. First up is the Sydney Harbor Bridge, which takes you from the rocks to north Sydney. Then is the iconic Sydney Opera House, which is one of the most famous architectural landmarks ever built. The Sydney Olympic park built around the Olympics houses the sporting facilities. The darling harbor houses are some of the most famous eating out places in the city. Finally, you can also visit the Sydney Tower which is the tallest building in the city and houses many restaurants.

Food
Eating out in the city can be fun, as the city accommodates many different communities from the world. The food here is diverse and you can find many different types of foods very easily. There are many multicultural restaurants around, which cater to the different customers from all around the world.

i was convicted of theft stole a sum of money from my previous employer went to court. ( yes i know i am remorseful) got 240 hrs community service and a fine and a good behaviour bond. can i still travel? to europe and asia?

2.       China.  The most populous country in the world is also one of the biggest providers of great ESL jobs – in fact, many ESL teachers report feeling as though they had their pick of work thanks to the vast amount of schools in this massive country. 

When considering an ESL placement in China, try looking beyond Beijing and Shanghai to cities that are just as fascinating but will give you a true taste of Chinese culture.  Warmer climates and gorgeous beaches make Southern and Eastern China a delightful treat, although Northwestern China should be limited to the adventurous as it isn’t as developed as other areas of the country. 

China does come with its own challenges when applying for ESL jobs, especially when it comes to work visas and permits.  Always check to see if the school or university where you’re working has the proper credentials to hire foreign teachers, as many ESL job placement agencies warn that phony school scams have been reported here.  

3.       Taiwan.  Taiwan is truly a teacher’s market, as there’s a huge demand for ESL teachers all year round – and with an extremely low cost of living, ESL teachers often report leaving their posts with as much as $8,000 in savings! 

Taiwan is a gorgeous island district with a fast-growing economy, which is why the demand for English teachers is so high.  Taiwan also boasts major school chains that can help initiate and train ESL teachers for life in Taiwan, which provides a great support system for those who might experience some culture shock.  The most plentiful ESL jobs here are for kindergarten teachers at chain English schools; if you have a MA, you’re qualified to teach at universities, where hours vary.

Indonesia boasts some of the best weather in Asia, along with a delicious cuisine that’s extremely popular among ESL teachers.  Additionally, ESL teachers can expect a low cost of living (get ready to sharpen your bartering skills!) in a culture that’s genuinely fascinated by English speakers – in fact, you’ll make plenty of friends with the locals!  As a teacher, you’ll live in a middle-class neighborhood in a house with other English teachers.

The most job vacancies will be on the islands of Java and Sumatra.  According to previous ESL teachers, it’s difficult to get a job on Bali, as they prefer to hire people from within the country.

Japan.  Japanese culture is rich, exciting and full of energy – and now has never been a better time to teach English in Japan! 

There are plenty of ESL chain schools in Japan, which means that it’s relatively easy to find work within the 3 months of your tourist visa.  However, it’s recommended that you find your teaching post before landing in Japan, as the cost of living in this economic powerhouse is quite high; in fact, Tokyo is one of the most expensive cities in the world.  With that said, picking where you want to teach in Japan is crucial, as there are huge difference between the big and small cities (and it isn’t just size!).  Jobs are more plentiful in Tokyo and Osaka, while smaller cities will help you to stretch your salary and give you a more authentic Japanese experience.

Suggestions for single girl travel in SE Asia?

I’m a 20+ singaporean girl who just wants to get away for a little while, travelling alone if possible. I’ve never travelled overseas alone before so maybe i’ll start with southeast asia? Any suggestions on safest & good places, ways to travel, tips and such?

Traveling alone in se asia at your age is safe enough to do as long you use common sense. From Singapore you could take the KTM train through Malaysia and into the South of Thailand. Here you could see the lovely Beach’s and islands around Phuket before continuing on to Bangkok. From there go east and into Cambodia by bus. Stop by Siem Reap and see the ancient temples of Angkor. Keep heading east through Cambodia will take you to the South of Vietnam stopping off in Saigon. Taking the train right through vietnam is the way to go and after stopping off in Hanoi you could go to Halong Bay and a visit to the northern hill tribes. From there taking a bus west and into Laos is not an option. Its unsafe and will take days going through the highlands so take a flight to Luang Prabang. Go west by bus (Laos is general takes a long time to travel via bus) and into northern Thailand for some hill tribe trekking and back down to Bangkok in where you can get a flight home. Deciding where you stop in a country is what you will sort out once there. Dont give into beggers and kids trying to sell you stuff. Take a travel guide. An Overview of Japan for Travelers

Extending along the eastern coast of Asia, Japan is a country consisting of a collection of islands. The mainland, as we think of it, is the island of Honshu. There are three other large islands, Hokkaido, Shikoku, and Kyushu, and roughly 3,000 much smaller islands comprising what we call Japan. Put together, the total land mass is slightly smaller than California. The geography throughout the islands is mountainous, best exemplified by Mt. Fuji at 12,385 feet. As you might expect, the island country is inherently recognition of a volcanic are and Japan experiences earthquakes fairly frequently, some on a large scale.

Japan is an extremely urbanized country with most people living in major cities. The two prominent religions are Shintoism and Buddhism. The belief systems are harmonious and often share the same temples.

Per legend, Japan was founded by Emperor Jimmu around 600 BC. The current emperor is a descendent of the first.

The first interaction with the West was in 1542 when a lost Portuguese ship landed in Japan. Over the next century more Westerns came, but they were not trusted. The Japan shoguns eventually banned all foreigners and the country was isolated for over 200 years. Not until 1854 did Japan open its doors to the world under the Convention of Kanagawa with the United States. Once this occurred, Japan quickly evolved from a feudal state to a more modern approach.

World War I was a boon for Japan. Fighting on the side of the victorious Allies, Japan repeated new respect as an economic and military power following the defeat of the Axis. Alas, the emperor of Japan went in a different direction after the war, seeking dominance of China and Asia in general.

In 1937, Japan became an ally of Nazi German. This eventually led to its decision to pursue an attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Following four years of war, the loss of 3 million Japanese lives and two atomic bombings, Japan surrendered to the United States on September 2, 1945. It was stripped of most of its territorial holdings and was ruled de facto by General Douglas MacArthur, designated the Supreme Commander.

Following World War II, Japan turned to a democratic system through reforms. The U.S. and allies returned complete control to Japan on April 28, 1952 via the Treaty of Peace. Although its days as a military power were over, Japan once again became an economic giant. Despite its relatively tiny land mass, Japan has the second biggest economy in the world.

Modern day Japan covers 145,902 square miles. The capital is Tokyo. The terrain is best described as rugged, mountainous islands with varying temperatures.

The people of Japan are called “Japanese.” The total population is just over 127.4 million people, but the population is decreasing slightly in size. Japanese is the primarily language spoken and literacy rates are 99 percent. Japanese males have a life expectancy of 77 years while women live to 84 on average.

With its mountainous island landscape, Japan is a hot destination spot for travelers. It is expensive, but a visit to Mount Fuji alone makes a trip worthwhile.

The average daily cost for budget travel ( 2 persons ) are as follows :

USD10 – 3 meals a day ( street food or ordinary restaurants )’

USD15-USD20 – accomodation ( hostels or budget hotels ), if you want a star rated hotel ( 3 star ), just top up another USD20-USD30.

USD15 – transportation ( public transportation for local travels, taxis excluded )

For international travel – depends on your destinations. In South East Asia, you can travel from Singapore all the way to Vietnam and even to China ON LAND, if you choose this option and take public buses / trains, you would be able to save quite a big sum from your budge

Of course, in big cities, everything is more expensive and in smaller towns, things are very cheap ( by western standard ) and certain countries are cheaper to travel than the others example Japan , things there are expensive even by western standard while in developing countries like Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar , you probably don’t even have to spend the amount that i stated above.

With light traffic, you can get to SM MOA in under 15 minutes. If there is moderate traffic, between 20-30 mins, 30 min- 1 hr, if the traffic is really heavy. SM MOA is just two rides away from DLSU – one jeep ride to from DLSU to Buendia (under 5 mins, usually), and another from Buendia to MOA so it won’t really take long.

Edit:

Oh, this is assuming that the jeepney from Buendia to MOA leaves immediately. The drivers fill their jeepneys first before leaving, so take that into account.

Hitchhiking is a way of traveling when you are short of money or just want to experience an adventure you will never get when traveling with comfort. Both these causes lead to one result – you come on the road and try to catch a car.

Some piece of advice before you begin your trip.

1)    If you know your destination point, you’d better to think over your route not to find yourself far away from the desired city.
2)    Be extra careful, because the hitchhiking is always a risk. Take you mobile and try to be in touch with your friends or relatives (if connection allows, of course).
3)    Be careful with your money – don’t store all them in one place.
4)    Don’t take too much luggage – you’ll be tired very soon.
5)    Take all you may need – if your route passes far from the cities you may have no chance to by all the necessary things.
6)    When you travel alone the risk increases twice – so, may be it’s better to have a fellow traveler.  There are a lot clubs and communities of hitchhikers (for example, in Internet) where you not only can find a fellow traveler but also receive a useful advise.

What attracts people in hitchhiking is the feeling of freedom and the opportunity to have the real adventure. It’s a challenge in some way and some people like to accept it. Some hitchhikers like to have a chance to meet new people and to make friends.

Of course, sometimes such meetings are not exiting at all – the boring drivers desiring to describe you their whole lives is the least of the problems. Everybody knows the proverb – don’t talk to the strangers. It has sense because some of them are really dangerous. If you are locked up in a car with such a person, the best thing is to use your gas spray can and to clear out of the car. So, don’t forget to include your aerosol in list of the necessary things.
Although the hitchhiking is supposed to be free of charge, be ready to pay sometimes. May be the only driver going in your direction will not intend to pick up you for free.

Speaking about the best routs for hitchhiking – it’s Europe and the United States. The reason? The highways are better, the traffic is intensive and you surely get to the point in a short time. And, again, no borders, no extra visa, no problems with the customs. It’s all true, but if you want the real challenge you can go to some wild part of Asia or Africa. It will be difficult to catch a car (just because they are not widespread there) and if don’t know the language it will be hard to explain what you want. However when you reach your destination you will feel yourself a hero, or at least, a brave traveler seeking for the unknown places.

As for where to stay for the night – the real hitchhiker tries not to stay in the hotels of even in campings. He or she would prefer to stay on the nature or the house of the local inhabitant.

Now the hitchhiking has become some kind of sport – and there are some competitions in this field. The aim is to achieve some point in the shortest time and not to pay for it. On TV there are even some shows, devoting to hitchhiking. Its popularity increases. Why? The suggestion is that people are fed up with their comfortable lives and like to feel the adrenaline and to participate in an adventure. As far as the West concerned, it’s true, but as it was said in the beginning, some choose this way of traveling just because they have no money.

Vietnam

Thailand

Malaysia
It’s best to bring light and cool clothing in Malaysia. Malaysia has many religions, you would usually see, a variety of Christian churches, Muslim Mosques and Buddhist and Hindu temples may be present in each city.

Philippines
The Philippine has 7,107 islands and islets; beaches are the main tourist spots in the country. There are several museums and Historical Landmarks in Manila, the country’s capital.  Boracay Island is the boast of the country which has white sand beaches.

Hongkong
Hong Kong is a key destination for many travelers. It is located in Eastern Asia, near China and the South China Sea. Formerly, leased to Great Britain, Hong Kong was officially returned to China in 1997.  Hong Kong offers diversity in: culture, religion, and lifestyles.
Chinese, (Cantonese) and English are both the official language here. So foreigners, who are planning to visit, should not have any problems exploring, and experiencing the culture of this vibrant place; since English is widely spoken here.

Hong Kong dollar is the currency in use here. One American dollar roughly equals around 7 Hong Kong dollars.  
Hong Kong is known for: its unique energetic vibe, its wonderful food, and beautiful skylines. Hong Kong offers many great upscale shopping districts that rival the high end streets of: Shanghai, London and Paris. But the best places to shop here are the unique shops, and street markets that exhibit the charm and uniqueness of the locality.

General Tips
Each country in Asia has its own currency, although up-end establishments will accept dollars, there are very few of these around. It is best to have your money changed at the local bank. Some hotels also offer money changing, but usually at a lower exchange rate.
Like any kind of decisions people have to make, it is always important to know the area they will be visiting so as to familiarize themselves with the laws, locations of best tourist spots, and the kind of people they have to deal with.
Going to a place without having the slightest idea what it is all about is just as bad as going to the wilderness with beasts lurking everywhere and there’s no gadget to protect them.

Check for travel warning and avoid the regions of Ingushetia, North Caucasus of Chechnya, eastern and southern parts of Stavropol Krii, and Dagestan. These places could be dangerous for tourist.

Avoid drinking tap water. Instead drink bottled water. If there is no available bottled water, boil the water first before drinking.

I actually don’t know one, but maybe this can help too.

I traveled Southeast Asia for two months and found the cheapest way to do it was flying in to Singapore and from there, purchase tickets from Air Asia to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Vietnam. And from even there, there are loads of buses that will take you across the borders i.e. Laos to Thailand for $20 USD.

Numerous backpackers and travelers have said the same during my trip, i.e. you can purchase a ticket to Bangkok from Phuket for $30 USD.

Can I travel through Asia and get visas along the way?

I plan to travel through Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Can I get visas along the way at borders or airports?

Answer
I know that you can get Cambodian visa from the border but for Vietnam, you have to get it from an embassy on the way. I don’t think you would need a visa for Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore..
Sorry, I don’t know about others.
It all depends your nationality at the end. Check it with your country’s Foreign Affairs ministry..
