With light traffic, you can get to SM MOA in under 15 minutes. If there is moderate traffic, between 20-30 mins, 30 min- 1 hr, if the traffic is really heavy. SM MOA is just two rides away from DLSU – one jeep ride to from DLSU to Buendia (under 5 mins, usually), and another from Buendia to MOA so it won’t really take long.

Oh, this is assuming that the jeepney from Buendia to MOA leaves immediately. The drivers fill their jeepneys first before leaving, so take that into account.

I know that you can get Cambodian visa from the border but for Vietnam, you have to get it from an embassy on the way. I don’t think you would need a visa for Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore..

Stay: In Lombok you may be able to get away with a local “melati” hotel (non-star) but in other places I recommend sticking to a budget world-known chain such as Quality Inn or Ibis.

Safety: Wear an old baseball cap, sunglasses, and light long-sleeved shirts so people don’t immediately notice that you are a foreigner. Wear flip-flops and clothes that aren’t expensive, avoid wearing jewellery and carrying thick wallets with money popping out of them. Don’t answer your mobile phone when you’re caught in a traffic jam or walking in the street–set it on silent and pretend you don’t have it. I always abide by these rules in Indonesia and I’ve never had a problem.

Once you get to Indonesia there will be many cheap regional flights like Lion Air–you can travel Jakarta-Yogyakarta (1 hr flight) for about the equivalent of $25-30 retour. Can I travel through Asia and get visas along the way?

I plan to travel through Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Can I get visas along the way at borders or airports?

I know that you can get Cambodian visa from the border but for Vietnam, you have to get it from an embassy on the way. I don’t think you would need a visa for Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore..

If you’re planning a trip abroad, you’re probably concerned about travel safety. Global travel and vacations do pose a risk whether you’re traveling alone or with your family. Here are some simple travel safety tips you can follow without adding a lot of stress during your trip.

Resort or Hotel Safety

Be sure the area where you plan to stay is not a high-crime area. Check with several hotels in the area and ask what the crime level is in the neighborhood. When staying at a remote luxury resort, be sure you know how to phone the local medical dispatchers or police in case of an emergency. You might be 20 miles out of town and a desk clerk might not be available to assist you when needed, so prepare in advance just in case.

When exiting your hotel room or the hotel lobby into the parking lot, check your surroundings for suspicious persons. Keep your money, credit cards and traveler checks hidden away in a safe place. Avoid carrying a purse or handbag openly. If the hotel provides a safe in your room, use it for valuables and money as well.

If traveling with children, never leave them alone or allow them to wander around the hotel. Predators look for children who are alone and can easily capture them and drag them into a room without your knowledge.

Make Copies

It’s important to make copies of all important documents before leaving. In global travel and vacations, there are usually many papers to keep up with such as licenses, passports, birth certificates, and insurance documents. You should even copy your credit cards (front and back). Leave these copies with someone you trust.

We’re thinking about flying to vietnam and taking on from there? Most likely do a train travel around asia rather than flying. Is there a train that will go around Asia, something similar to Eurorail in Europe.

That would be by Train and Bus or Ferry. Asian countries are not connected by trains. I know that you can take a train from mainland China (Shanghai, Beijing or other main cities) to Hong Kong. From Singapore, you can ride bus to Malaysia. Laos, Burma and Thailand connected by Bus.

An alternative would be budget airlines. Checkout their super low fares. Try Cebu Pacific, Tiger Air and Air Asia.
